From the somewhat humble beginnings of Chevrolet's new pony car in 1967, the Chevy Camaro has once again been raised to new heights in the muscle car world with the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Camaro models hitting the streets now! GM intended to counter the Ford Mustang and Mopar models like the Plymouth Barracuda, and did they ever! The Camaro Z28 package has always screamed pure performance back in the early days of the 1968 and 1969 and even into the styling changes of 1970 and 1971. Ready to reclaim some of its nasty reputation lost during the days of the EPA restrictions in the 70s and early 80s, the 1985 Camaro IROC-Z did just that with its sports performance package and standard Chevy 305-cid 5.0 liter engine and a couple of years later the 1987 IROC featured a 5.7 liter V-8 motor, with a limited edition even boasting a ragtop! Things really heated up with the release of the 1996 Camaro SS as the modern muscle car era evolved even further.
Other years that we have new, used and NOS Camaro parts for are 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 Z/28, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and the 2006 Camaro Concept car!
When the 1994s came out, there was mixed news for Camaro fans. A new convertible body style was added. It was the first factory built Camaro ragtop since the 1969 model concluded the nameplates first generation. The open model listed for $22,565, compared to $19,235 for the coupe. At first, the convertible lacked some of the heavy-duty suspension parts used on the coupe and its top speed was goverened at 104 mph.
Other 1994 changes included a new electronically controlled automatic transmission and a Computer Aided Gear Selection device for the six-speed manual gearbox that, similar to the Corvette, hit you with a first-to-fourth shift if you were not engaged in hard acceleration. Back to the good side, the Camaro's hot-running LT1 V-8 got sequential port fuel injection, shich was a definite improvement over multi-port fuel injection.
All 1994 Camaros were equipped with improved brakes and the high-performance Z28 included four-wheel disc brakes. Ordering the 1LE special performance suspension package was simplified, as it now appeared on the Chevrolet order form as an RPO (regular production option).
The Camaro interior had modest changes. High-contrast black knobs and white graphics were used in place of the gray knobs and yellow graphics of 1993. Camaro Z28s with optional speed-rated Goodyear tires had 150-mph speedometers substituted for the stock 115-mph type. Also new were inside sun visors with storage provisions, flood light type door illumination and an optional new keyless entry system. Flame Red was a new color of fabric available.
Highlights of the Camaro's standard equipment list included driver and passenger air bags, ABS VI anti-lock brakes, intermittent windshield wipers, a tilt steering wheel, left and right-hand covered visor mirrors, side-window defoggers, a PASS Key II theft-deterrent system, cup holders, in-door storage pockets, a lighted console and a locking glove box. Two new exterior colors were Dark Bright Teal and Polo Green Metallic.
The newly bodied 1994 Mustang GT and Cobra were natural comparisons for the 1-year-old Camaro Z28, which had little trouble holding its class crown. Among other things, Car and Driver pointed to the Camaro's top speed of 156 mph (versus 137 mph for the Mustang) and noted "the Mustang got hammered."
Chevrolet built a total of 112,539 Camaro coupes and 7,260 Camaro convertibles in 1995, but it is not known how many cars had the 1995 Camaro Z28 parts package.
